Have A Safe And Happy Halloween!

We have been receiving some of the most exciting and validating awards and accolades.  Our highest rating yet was just awarded to us by Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition.  We were rated 98-Points along with winning Best of Show for Red Wines; Best of Class for Cabernet Sauvignon and the Platinum medal all on our 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon!  Our 2011 Cabernet took the gold!

The 2010 was also recently given a 96-Point rating and a glowing review by Rich Cook:

Hawk and Horse, Red Hills (Lake County) Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 ($65):  If you like your Cab bold, full-bodied and bright, this is a wine for you.  It's rare to find a wine that's this fully extracted that maintains solid varietal character without going over the top.  Big blackberry, cassis, damp earth, toast, mild herbs and spices are present in both aroma and flavor, all singing over solid acidic structure and supple tannins.  The finish has a firm grip, but remains bright and integrated.  It's delicious now, and will reward further aging.  Contains 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, organically grown.  A Platinum Award winner at the 2014 Sommelier Challenge. 96 Rich Cook Sep 23, 2014

If you've not yet tried these wines it’s time to call the winery to order!  707/481-6941

~September is the 10th anniversary of California Wine Month acknowledging the state's rich wine history and the contributions of its vintners to the lifestyle and economy of the Golden State

Harvest was on September 15, 16 and 17.  We could not be more pleased with the 2014 vintage!  We brought in just under 3 tons per acre of really beautiful fruit – the balance of sugar and acidity were spot on and we’re very excited to see this baby evolve through fermentation and barrel aging into one of our prettiest vintages!  We harvested in the early morning hours - beginning at around midnight each day - to ensure the fruit was cool as it was brought to the crushpad.  We were very tired by week's end, but so very satisfied!

At approximately 3:20 am Sunday, August 24, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred northwest of American Canyon and 6 miles from downtown Napa.  The epicenter was about 1.5 hours drive from Hawk and Horse Vineyards' location in Lower Lake.

In Lake County the quake was felt as a slow rolling and shaking of buildings.  Residents were woken by the magnitude of the quake but no one was reported injured in Lake County.  At Hawk and Horse Vineyards the ranch and vineyard sustained no signs of damage and our entire wine inventory is safe.

Not everyone was as fortunate.  Several structures in the city of Napa, many of historic nature, received significant damage. At this time, it appears the majority of the damage was centered on specific areas in the city of Napa. The regions around Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga seem to have experienced minimal damage and disruption. For travelers coming to the Napa Valley, most businesses are open as usual, however, we suggest calling first to confirm your plans. The official Visit Napa Valley Welcome Center will be opened today, August 25. They will continue to update as new information becomes available.

We thank those of you who have reached out to us to check on our well-being and ask that you continue to hold those less fortunate in your thoughts and prayers.
