The most important thing you want to see in the vineyard is your shadow.”

-Stephen Krebs, Napa Valley Jr. College Viticulture Program

At 2,200 feet elevation, in the Red Hills AVA, we just broke into 100-degree days!  We are casting our shadow this week doing “canopy management.”  This is the time of the year when we see rapid shoot and canopy growth. In order to provide proper shading, sun and wind flow, we stuff the canopy into the fruiting wires.

 Welcome to Summer!

We are experiencing interesting weather patterns this year, from rain and cool,

coastal days to heat into the ‘90s. As they say…

”if you don’t like the weather in California…just wait a few minutes!"

Have A Safe And Happy Halloween!

We want you to be the first to know that

the 2011 Petite Sirah is bottled and it is stunning!

Our first vintage and only 40 cases produced.

We have been receiving some of the most exciting and validating awards and accolades.  Our highest rating yet was just awarded to us by Sommelier Challenge International Wine Competition.  We were rated 98-Points along with winning Best of Show for Red Wines; Best of Class for Cabernet Sauvignon and the Platinum medal all on our 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon!  Our 2011 Cabernet took the gold!

The 2010 was also recently given a 96-Point rating and a glowing review by Rich Cook:

Hawk and Horse, Red Hills (Lake County) Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 ($65):  If you like your Cab bold, full-bodied and bright, this is a wine for you.  It's rare to find a wine that's this fully extracted that maintains solid varietal character without going over the top.  Big blackberry, cassis, damp earth, toast, mild herbs and spices are present in both aroma and flavor, all singing over solid acidic structure and supple tannins.  The finish has a firm grip, but remains bright and integrated.  It's delicious now, and will reward further aging.  Contains 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, organically grown.  A Platinum Award winner at the 2014 Sommelier Challenge. 96 Rich Cook Sep 23, 2014
