As the vineyard comes to life, with the canopy emerging and wildflowers in bloom, we work to enliven the soil on the biodynamic vineyard. We will be applying Pfeiffer field spray to the vineyard floor this week. Pfeiffer field spray is a combination of herbs, composted manure, and minerals which enhances production of friendly soil bacteria and enzymes, helping build humus
For those of you who didn’t study soil fertility, hummus is the organic component of the soil. It is formed when plant material decomposes into rich, earthy compost.
Normally, when the vine rows are mowed, the “green manure” takes some time to decompose. Until decomposition is complete, nutrients are less readily available to the vines. The addition of Pfeiffer field spray makes the process of decomposition more efficient, speeding delivery of nutrients to our vines as they awaken from winter’s dormancy.
Pfeiffer field spray is totally natural, containing no synthetic chemicals. It is safe for all life; not toxic to plant, animal, or any other living organisms. We apply it as a fortified tea, spraying it on the vineyard floor before mowing.
May your spring be filled with bright days and fabulous wines!
